Cantina do Délio opens its doors to Social Gourmet, a project teaching young people fresh pasta and entrepreneurship
In 2019, the Cantina’s kitchen hosted Social Gourmet classes, which offer free lessons in fresh pasta and entrepreneurship to low-income young people.

Fresh pasta, the heart of the Cantina, can also open doors. In 2019, the house hosted two classes from Social Gourmet Gastronomia Solidária, a project offering free cooking and entrepreneurship lessons to low-income young people.
It’s a 30-hour “make and sell” course: students learn to produce handmade fresh pasta while also studying communication, marketing, sales techniques and finance. The idea is to leave with a trade in hand and a way to earn an income.
We aim to encourage entrepreneurship, so young people have a source of income and better chances of employment.

From its launch in October 2017 to early 2019, the programme had trained 136 students in 12 classes. In partnership with the Cantina, two more classes took place: March 18–22 and April 9–12, 2019.
How it worked

A two-way street
For Délio Canabrava, supporting social projects is a way of giving back to the city what it gave him. In his view, private business also needs to take the first step when it can.
